As you may have noticed we decided to change the name of the server for a while. With the recent release of the patch have come many good and just ridiculous things. We always critique the things that we love so this isn’t so much a “bitchy blog” as just a “what the fuck” article.

So Gold Rush is just solid gold. This map has it all. This map makes it equally fun to defend or to deliver the payload. So many different routes to go, both narrow and yet parts are vast. A very matriculate job done by the Valve team, only to be fucked over by stats whores. The first time I encountered this term was when Prox and I used to play Battlefield 2.

Case 1:

You may be asking what I mean by “Fucked over by stats whores”, well here it goes (from my perspective). I load the game up, of course I’m going to try Gold Rush, it just came out. After about 20 minutes of trying I finally get into a server that *isn’t full, *has users playing, and *is not password protected. I decide to do a default move and go soldier. Well apparently I’m the only one who had that single fucking thought in his mind, because In a team of 15 there where 10 medics. WTF.

Well after the siren sounded and the gates opened a new decade in TF2 game play has begun I like to call it “Uber wars”. As I walked past the gate in hope of getting a kill or two my hopes were quickly crushed by about 14 Red Glowing bastards, with trophies above their heads. This was quickly countered by about 15 glowing Blu guys with trophies above there heads. After about 30 seconds of stalemates I walked back to the spawn point hanging my head. WTF.

When the smoke finally cleared I came out of the Spawn and approached the cart, which may I add was still sitting in its original location. My teammates were just running around trying to massacre everyone, not even taking point to the objective. Finally, after they see that little cart icon on the bottom moving, they must have taken note.

Well that was the first experience in Gold Rush and a very shitty one at that. The server was chopping, everyone with a mic was around 17 years old, and to top it off there was one British bloke who just wouldn’t shut the fuck up. This is when Prox. and I both just dropped. While sitting in amazement staring at the TF2 background, my steam chat icon came up in the lower right corner. “Not worth it” - Proximity

Case 2:

Its day 2 of the patch release. We finally got Montana FragFest up and going after some issues with Windows server and Beetles mod. So I’m enjoying my time in there. Keep in mind that this game is called TEAM Fortress. Its a typical 2fort scenario, surprisingly there are only about 3 medics. So were going along and one of my teammates (Guy A) is calling for a medic by hitting “e” and also over the voice. And there is a medic right in front of him (Guy B). He acknowledges his fellow teammate and just continues to shoot a guy with his needler. At this time Guy A confronts Guy B over voice comm. and says dude “WTF why didn’t you help me”. And his response “I was trying to kill 5 in a row to get an achievement”. WTF. I was dead at the time watching and listening to the whole debacle. Of course I kicked this guy.

I feel as a co-admin its our job to promote fun and team play. But I do feel a bit hypocritical. I’m not the best fucking teammate all the time, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t blatantly ignore a comrade. Ending my rant I would like to say that this IS probably the end of just obvious grinding for achievements. Medic is a very niche class where you would have to do very obscure achievements to get upgrades. A Medic does not have the ability to go head to head in combat, where every other class does. So with the next update I think that there will be less of an effect of gameplay when everyone goes solider or whatever. Foreseeable problems: Spy and Engineer unlocks.
