Confession: I Can’t Play Scary Games
Although I’ve known this for quite some time, I’ve only recently come to terms and admitted by biggest failure of as a man: scary video games scare the crap out of me. I’m honestly not that sure why, because scary movies don’t really bother me. I think it might have something to do with being IN CONTROL of the scary situation.
Because of this problem I haven’t been able to play some of the best games out there. Good examples are Bioshock, Doom 3, and any survival horror game out there (the Resident Evils, Elmo’s World). If I play a scary game for any length I am absolutely exhausted! I will inch through the levels peeking around every corner the whole time having my body extremely tense. I get done playing and I’m not even relaxed (which is why I play video games). Luckily some companies are coming out with solutions to this problem, such as cooperative play in Left4Dead. If i have one of my hard chargin’ buddies with me it’s just not as scary!
How about you guys, you like scary games?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R scared the shit out of me. I played that for like an hour and it was uninstalled. Haha.

YAY first post after Hijack… I’m still Alive!! Anyway, I wouldn’t say I really ever get scared in a game, more of a series of panic attacks when things startle me, like in F.E.A.R. when Alma randomly appears to make me shit my pants. I had to calm down during a lot of that game, oh and the original silent hill on playstation had an everlasting effect on me too. I guess its more of a rush rather than fright, but either way I am drawn to those type of games. Doom III failed miserably in all aspects of that, but bioshock wins awards!!

Yeah I’m not usually SCARED the entire time, but it’s the anticipation that makes me tense up and ultimately not enjoy playing the game.
Back to 8-bit games for me!

Dude the bottomless pits of Mario are far more scary then the corridors of Dead Space, or Bioshock….
