New Xbox Experience: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

The Good

The New Xbox Experience is clean, smooth, and very Web 2.0. I love how they retained the blade system in the new guide and the Netflix streaming is easy, beautiful, and works flawlessly. The ability to install games is nice, not great or earth shattering, but nice. Now I can play games without having to hear my loud-ass 360 disk spin up. The avatars are more hip and fun than Mii’s, and definitely less Japanese (which is a good thing). I haven’t tried parties yet (I don’t personally play many games that use parties), but it looks fun and very polished. Read more »

Left 4 Dead Versus Mode: First Impressions

Posted in Games, PC, Reviews, Xbox 360 on November 18th, 2008 by Jade Robbins

Okay so last night at 10:00 MST Left 4 Dead hit the internet, which I eagerly launched and played my most anticipated feature of the full version: Versus Mode.

My thoughts: VERSUS MODE IS FUN AS HELL. Nothing beats being an infected setting up an ambush on the survivors. I personally like being a Boomer and vomiting all over the survivors (calling in the always fun horde), but it’s also very satisfying to be a hunter and pin someone down tearing at their flesh!!

I do feel, though, that people’s worry about L4D’s lack of content and multiplayer staying power is warrented, but hopefully Valve will keep us in downloadable content so that this game will be fresh and fun for quite some time.

If I can get a crew of people together I’ll be sure to play as much of the game as possible and give the entire game a full feldged review soon.

Sweet Ass Deal from Valve

Posted in Games, News Clippings, PC on November 16th, 2008 by Jade Robbins

Alright, time for all you slackers out there who shamefully haven’t played many of Valve’s products to put up or shut up. Valve recentely created the Valve Complete Pack on Steam and cranked the price down to $99. While some of you are saying “WTF a hundred bucks?”, you can shut up now because this pack just might be one of the best collections of video games ever made. I will be brutally honest with you and say that Counter-Strike pretty much made me the gamer I am today, and you can’t beat the single player action of ANY of the Half-Life games.

Go buy this now and support people in the industry who actually make quality products and don’t shovel out shit games *coughEAcough*.

What We’re Playing – November 14, 2008

Posted in Montana Fragfest News on November 14th, 2008 by Jade Robbins
  • Jade “Proximity” Robbins – “After a LAN party my game time decreases substantially. I’ve been constantly playing Madden 09, though. That is the nice thing about sports games is that the actual sport keeps your interest. Really would love to get Mirrors Edge and can’t wait for Left4Dead to be released.”
  • Travis “Bullet-Tooth Tony” Henningsen – “In the past 3 week I have been on a single player rampage. I’ve blown through dead space, farcry , and Fallout 3. Also been dealing with my ISP Brensan who pretty much has their head up there ass. My ping is somewhere between 300 and 800 making online addiction almost impossible.”
  • Mark “Bruce LeeRoy” Sanborn – “Looking for a new game to play as I am getting burned out on TF2. I recently dabbled in fallout3 and realized that it wasn’t the game for me. The game is highly focused on role playing and talking to town folk. I need a game that is all “killin no fillin” which is what left 4 dead is. I am waiting for the release of left 4 dead but is still not decided if I am going to buy the game. I fear that it is not going to be a long term multiplayer game like TF2 was. In the mean time I’m going to install the new Farcry and blow some bitches up.”
