The Medic Dichotomy

When playing a medic in Team Fortress 2 there are basically two ways you can be an effective Medic both you the Medic and the rest of your team need to understand these two types of play. As a medic you can either be a Heavy-Medic or a Team-Medic, and the difference is quite important.

The Team-Medic

This is the medic in the traditional sense of a team-class based game. You run around, helping the assault and healing teammates as they require it. In Team Fortress you are less effective in helping the assault, because usually your teammates are always getting injured and requiring your assistance. This means you run around healing teammates who are injured, boosting their health when they aren’t injured, and occasionally getting an ubercharge that you will expel on the most effective teammate around. When all your teammates die, you retreat until you find more bodies for the assault and begin the cycle again. You must pay careful attention to people calling “Medic!” because then you have a teammate in need and you must assist them. Read more »

Achieve What?!?!

Posted in PC, Team Fortress 2 on May 14th, 2008 by Proximity

The New EnemyValve recently released their new achievement system for the Medic in Team Fortress 2, and personally, I don’t like it. In the past I have throughly enjoyed several achievement-based upgrade systems (Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 4), but Valve got it all wrong. I am a gaming purist, I strive to play the game as the developers intended. My understanding is that an achievement is gained through playing the game in a normal fashion. That doesn’t mean you can’t do amazing things in the normal course of a game (I mean I’m like Mr. Wizard out there), but some of Valve’s achievements are obviously not made to happen in the normal flow of a game.

Achievement: You’ll Feel a Little Prick

Assist in killing 3 enemies with a single Uber-Charge on a Scout. There is no practical use for this in the game??! why in the hell would you uber a scout? I’ll tell you why: to farm an achievement. Another terrrible one:

Grinding my Gears.

As you may have noticed we decided to change the name of the server for a while. With the recent release of the patch have come many good and just ridiculous things. We always critique the things that we love so this isn’t so much a “bitchy blog” as just a “what the fuck” article.

So Gold Rush is just solid gold. This map has it all. This map makes it equally fun to defend or to deliver the payload. So many different routes to go, both narrow and yet parts are vast. A very matriculate job done by the Valve team, only to be fucked over by stats whores. The first time I encountered this term was when Prox and I used to play Battlefield 2.

Case 1:

You may be asking what I mean by “Fucked over by stats whores”, well here it goes (from my perspective). I load the game up, of course I’m going to try Gold Rush, it just came out. After about 20 minutes of trying I finally get into a server that *isn’t full, *has users playing, and *is not password protected. I decide to do a default move and go soldier. Well apparently I’m the only one who had that single fucking thought in his mind, because In a team of 15 there where 10 medics. WTF.
