Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action

Scene It BoxScene It? Lights, Camera, Action is a version of the popular movie trivia game for the Xbox 360. The game itself come with 4 Big Button controller and an IR reciever for the controllers. The game is very fun and keeps the spirit of the dvd/board originals. The only difference is that now every person can buzz in or answer and receive a variable amount of points based on when they buzz in. The game also lets yo log in to your Xbox Live accounts, receive achievements, and saves the questions you have seen to avoid repeats. Xbox Live is ready to give the game downloadable content (hopefully in the form of new questions/game types), but has yet to release any and being that this game was set live in November of 07 the possibility of downloadable content is looking slim.

The biggest complaints I have about the game is that the graphics are pretty terrible and the commentary gets repetitive. . . . . . VERY QUICKLY. The graphics are a pretty moot point, though, being the focus of the game is the content and not the visuals. The game’s narrative is pretty generic and quickly gets very repetative. After awhile you want to punch the narrator right in the face.

Who has two thumbs and loves Goldrush?

Two Thumbs

This guy! —>

Today Valve released the Goldrush Update for Team Fortress 2. Along with some gameplay updates and bugfixes (which will be talked about in a later article), a major addition of this update is the Goldrush map. Goldrush introduces a new gameplay type called Payload, with the premise being that Blu team is pushing a large bomb (the payload) to the objective deep in Red territory. As members of the Blu team stand around the payload it moves forward (with greater speed the more teammates are around it) while simultaniously dispensing ammo and health. When the offensive pushing (Blu) team doesn’t push for 30 seconds, the payload starts slowly moving back down the track from whence it came. This is a key point, because on defense you need to remember that the cart CAN move back, but it moves back at a constant rate no matter how many people you have pushing it.

This map (or perhaps the gameplay type, I’m not sure which yet) are excellent and ridiculously fun to play. Even in the one night that Goldrush has been out I’ve noticed the playing community crafting very different strategies and counter-strategies.

Zero-Question Spy Detection

Posted in Team Fortress 2, Tips and Tricks on April 20th, 2008 by Jade Robbins

The SpyIf you are new to Team Fortress 2, the task of telling if someone is a spy or not can be rather daunting. I’m going to help out newbies by skipping all the tactical and mental games you can play with a spy and go straight to the fool-proof detection methods.

The first and best way to tell if a friendly isn’t so friendly is by “bumping” into them. By bumping I mean that when you are running around, you will walk through your teammates, but you don’t walk through enemies (or your enemies dispensers, sentries, etc.). So when you are walking, if you walk near a teammate and notice you can’t walk through them, GET KILLIN’! Often I’ll be attacking in a large group of teammates and just notice the slightest bump and more often than not it is a spy.

Lan Party No-No’s

Posted in Tips and Tricks on April 6th, 2008 by Jade Robbins

Bad LAN AttendeeThe Montana Fragfest boys recently attended a MSU Hivemind LAN party. During this gaming orgy, I noticed that several people had committed several of the Cardinal sins of LAN partying. So to help you folks not be the LAN jackass I’m going to line out some of the biggest LAN party no-no’s so that your friends won’t think your an uber boob.

  • Macs – I know you are proud of your over priced computer (heck, even I own one) and excited to see such a large gathering of people who are somewhat technologically inclined, but your computer is not the same. Your computer is the cheerleader on the sideline while the rest of our computers are busy pummeling each other in the end zone. Please don’t bring a computer that is renown for it’s inability to play video games and then walk around the entire time complaining about not having games to play.

Fabulous Flamer

Posted in Team Fortress 2, Tips and Tricks on April 3rd, 2008 by Bullet-Tooth Tony

Pyro Poster“The Pyro doesn’t get lag compensation with the flamethrower in the same way which other characters do for their weaponry, which I think has a really subtle effect on perception, and it gets worse as your net connection gets worse. It’s one of the vagaries of multiplayer. Sometimes you think that what’s going on might not be what’s going on…..” -Valve’s Robin Walker

A”Remember to” list;

1) Remember: You have to aim with the flame thrower like you would have aimed in Quake II back in the 90′s. You need to lead your opponent a whole character length away at or around a latency of 50ms. You only aim directly at them if they are standing still.

2) Remember: You can easily take out lvl 1 and lvl 2 turrets. You need to make sure that you can pop out of corners and “flank” them. You need to circle strafe them in a loop whilst aiming directly at them (remember they are not moving). Never attempt to take out a lvl 3 even if you have a medic on you, the only way to do this is if you’ve become uber. I would say that the pyro is the second most effective turret demolisher.

3) Remember: You are the second to fastest class this means; A) don’t try to run down a scout or another Pyro with your flame thrower its best to use the shotgun B) If the chance comes up to take down an enemy, you want to run up behind them and get as close as possible before you “Flame on”. The Pyro is pretty much the Spy with out the disguise or the cloak. So you need to flank as much as possible.

4) Remember: Get in and get out. You need to light the fire and GTFO, as you backpedal away from an enemy you need to start shotgunning in their direction. Usually I try and take out other Pyros, since your suit is flame retardant this class is the best candidate.
